My husband is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Ron J Guevara. He has been practicing medicine for over 25 years in the Coastal Bend Area of Texas. Dr. G is a physician who practices a holistic, patient-centered approach to medicine of mind, body & spirit. My name is Amie Guevara & I have a degree in Communications & Business Administration. I had no medical background other than the struggles of being a caregiver for both of my parents until they both passed. For a few years I taught a nutrition class & culinary class at the local high school, among other electives and became very passionate about food as it relates to health. I've always grown my own food for the most part as a family tradition & share a love for the outdoors with my husband.
Recently I decided to go back to school to get my certification to be a Functional Medicine Nutritional Counselor. My doctor husband felt that I could use my passion about nutrition & my background in communications to help him treat patients by bridging the gap between conventional medicine, patient education, and functional medicine ~ which I like to describe as an investigation of one's lifestyle (habits & environment). We've become so hyper focused these days with 42 different specialties in medicine, yet our body is ONE system & everything is connected in our bodies. Isolating one cause is not the answer & our ancestors knew this in ancient medicine. Many times my husband will get caught up in the doctor talk & I loose him... I think we can all relate from this once in our life. "What did the doctor say in my visit today?" Our bodies & the science is so complicated, but most of us just want to know in an nutshell what's happening inside of us & what we can do to fix it. "In laymen's terms doc!" is my favorite saying to him.
With the knowledge I have gained from discussions with Dr. G about case study over the years in clinic as the doctor's wife & now FMNC classes I am busting at the seams with a lot to say! I love putting all the puzzle pieces together & thinking about the "what's happening inside of our entire body" when X,Y, & Z is the complaint. Working as a team together to help people feel better, live longer & have optimal health is our goal.
I hope that my efforts as The Doctor's Wife can be used to educate, motivate & inspire others to understand that the body is one system, everything is connected & we are all unique. There is no-one-size-fits all in treating patients. I currently have a Facebook page & a blog on this website. We hope to launch our podcast soon in January 2025.
